The Future of Accounting and Auditing Practices in UAE

The accounting and auditing sector in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is poised to undergo substantial expansion and transformation in the coming years. The UAE places considerable emphasis on the accounting and auditing profession, recognizing its pivotal function in overseeing the industry. The integration of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is anticipated to play a pivotal role in fostering the development of the accounting and auditing industry in the UAE.

New UAE Audit License Rules

The Ministry of Economy of the United Arab Emirates has recently declared the introduction of fresh regulations for auditors to operate within the nation, which will come into effect on the 13th of September, 2023. These novel regulations encompass the adoption of the ‘financial reporting ecosystem’ model, thereby positioning the UAE as one of the pioneering nations worldwide to embrace such a sophisticated model.

The UAE has recently implemented the ‘financial reporting ecosystem’ model as part of its regulatory framework for auditors. This model has been adopted with the objective of promoting consistency and transparency in financial reporting, which is of paramount importance in today’s globalized business landscape.

The UAE’s adoption of this model places it among the pioneers globally in embracing such an advanced framework. The new regulations also seek to ensure the provision of top-notch accounting and financial services in line with global best practices and will aid the authorities in addressing financial improprieties.

New UAE audit license rules have been introduced to strengthen confidence in the accounting and auditing profession in the country. These regulations affect all auditors, whether local or expat, seeking to apply for or renew the practising license that allows them to sign audit reports in the country.

Also, the UAE Fellowship Program will become a requirement for practising the profession in the country. Non-Emiratis are required to possess a minimum of one year’s experience within the United Arab Emirates, irrespective of their experience of over a decade outside the nation. It’s 2 years if their experience is less than 10 years. In order to practice as an auditor in the United Arab Emirates, it is required that an individual possess a minimum of five years of practical experience subsequent to obtaining their educational qualification. The recently introduced examination encompasses comprehensive information pertaining to the recently formulated tax code of the United Arab Emirates, specifically concerning corporation tax and other taxes. Additionally, it evaluates the proficiency of individuals in all UAE regulations associated with the accounting and auditing profession, encompassing ethical and behavioural norms, the corporate structure, tax framework, and legal accountability concerning the practice of the profession.

The recently implemented regulations have been designed with the objective of ensuring the provision of top-notch accounting and financial services in compliance with the globally recognized best practices. These regulations are expected to assist the authorities of the country in effectively addressing any instances of financial malfeasance. The introduction of the new audit practice license regulations in the United Arab Emirates is aimed at enhancing trust and confidence in the accounting and auditing profession of the state.
