External Audit Preparation for German-Owned UAE Companies
When a German group requests audited UAE financial statements, much of the work happens before the auditor starts testing. The local company must assemble reconciliations, explain transactions and answer questions that may involve staff in two countries. Flyingcolour provides audit preparation and coordination support so management can present an organised financial file to the independently appointed auditor.
Preparation is different from an audit opinion
An external auditor decides the procedures required and the opinion to issue. Our preparation role is to help management organise the accounting records and respond to information requests. It does not replace the auditor's judgment, reduce their independence requirements or guarantee an unqualified report. The engagement should make this distinction clear from the outset.
For a German parent consolidating a Dubai subsidiary, there may be both a local statutory audit and group reporting instructions. We help identify the requested deliverables, reporting dates and points of contact. Component-auditor instructions and group materiality are matters for the appointed audit teams, while management remains responsible for the completeness of information supplied.
Build the financial file around reconciled schedules
We can help prepare bank reconciliations, receivable and payable ageing, fixed-asset schedules, inventory information and support for accruals or provisions. Each schedule should agree to the trial balance and explain its basis. A collection of unrelated spreadsheets can delay the audit even when the underlying transactions are valid.
Opening balances deserve particular attention if the business has changed accounting systems or advisers. An unexplained difference from the prior closing position should be investigated early. We keep a record of proposed adjustments and obtain the appropriate management approvals rather than treating every auditor query as authority to change the books.
Coordinate information held in Germany
Parent-company loans, central purchasing, management charges and shared employees can generate audit questions that the UAE team cannot answer alone. We help identify the relevant agreements, confirmations and calculations and assign requests to the correct group contact. A request log records what has been supplied and what remains outstanding.
If documents are available only in German, the auditor should confirm the required language and whether a formal translation is needed. We do not assume that an informal summary replaces the original evidence. A consistent naming convention and controlled document-sharing process can also help the German team avoid responding repeatedly to slightly different versions of the same request.
Manage the audit timetable realistically
The timetable depends on the readiness of the books, availability of confirmations, inventory procedures and the auditor's schedule. We can help management work backwards from the parent reporting deadline and identify dependencies. Submitting a trial balance is not the same as completing the evidence required for sign-off.
Where a query reveals a control weakness or missing document, we distinguish immediate completion work from longer-term improvements. Management should know whether an issue affects the current accounts, next year's process or both. An unresolved matter should remain visible rather than disappear from the tracker because a meeting has ended.
Start with a scoped readiness review
Send the latest trial balance, prior financial statements, the auditor's information request and the German group's reporting instructions if available. Explain any recent restructuring, system migration or change in business activity. These details help identify the schedules likely to require additional work.
The proposal can separate a one-off audit-readiness review from ongoing query coordination and historical accounting cleanup. It should also identify which tasks must be completed by your own finance staff. The intended outcome is a traceable, reviewable accounting file and a clear process for resolving questions—not a promise to influence the auditor's conclusions.
Turn the auditor's request list into a managed work plan
Begin with the request list issued by the appointed auditor, then assign a company owner to each item. Some requests concern accounting schedules; others need contracts, legal confirmations or operational records that the finance team cannot produce alone. A German parent may also receive a separate group reporting request. Keep the two lists coordinated without assuming that their scope or deadlines are identical.
A useful tracker records the document requested, responsible person, expected delivery date and review status. Distinguish information that has been uploaded from information that has been checked and accepted for the next step. This helps avoid repeated circulation of incomplete schedules and makes genuine delays visible to management.
For example, an intercompany balance may require agreement between the UAE ledger and the German counterparty. Preparing a signed reconciliation can help explain the figures, but any confirmation procedure controlled by the auditor must remain independent. Our preparation support should not impersonate a counterparty or bypass that process.
At completion, retain the final versions and a record of adjustments approved by management. The next audit can then begin with a clear opening position. Unresolved matters should remain explicitly identified; closing a tracker item is not equivalent to an auditor reaching a satisfactory conclusion.
